Check Your Dog’s Pads
If you are noticing that your dog is walking strangely but are not sure what’s going on, one of the easiest things you can do is to check your dog’s pads.
Because the pads where your dog is putting more weight on are usually more worn out than the other pads.
- Photo on the right – This is the right hind leg of a dog that has patellar luxation.
- Photo on the left – This is the left foreleg of the same dog
Do you notice that the left foreleg pads are a lot more worn out? Are certain parts of the pads even red and painful? This shows how much this dog is compensating his right hind leg by putting more weight on the left foreleg.
Notice Compensatory Issues
Maintaining or restoring your dog’s body balance starts with noticing any compensatory issues or anything that seems to be off. So, watch how your dog walks. If you are not sure, check his/her pads.
